At Merdekasoft, we are committed to constantly improving B OS to provide a smooth, secure, and modern Linux experience. One of the most important upgrades we’ve made is the modernization of our repository system.
The Old Way (August 31, 2025 ISO)
The ISO released on August 31, 2025 still used the legacy repository method. At that time:
- Repositories were added manually into sources.list
- Integration with graphical tools like Discover was limited
- Updates relied on the old trusted=yes method without proper GPG signing
This setup worked, but it wasn’t aligned with modern Debian and Ubuntu standards.
The New Way (Modernized Repositories)
Now, with APT modernize-sources, B OS repositories have been fully modernized:
- Signed repositories using a dedicated GPG keyring (
/usr/share/keyrings/...
) - Full integration with both APT (command line) and Discover (graphical software manager)
- Secure updates verified against GPG signatures
- Clean source list management that avoids manual editing
