We are excited to announce the first B-OS 14 Alpha release, a modern Linux distribution built on top of Debian Testing (future Debian 14). Unlike many distributions that begin with version 1.0, B-OS aligns its versioning with Debian’s upcoming release cycle. Since Debian Stable is currently version 13 (Trixie), B-OS starts with version 14, staying in sync with Debian Testing as its foundation.
🔹 Why Version 14?
- Consistency → By following Debian’s versioning, users instantly know the Debian base of B-OS.
- Future-proof → When Debian 14 becomes stable, B-OS will also release its stable edition with the same version number.
- Clarity for users → No more confusion with “prototype”, “1.0”, or “next-gen” names. The version always matches the upstream base.
🔹 About the Alpha Release
This Alpha ISO is an early build for testing purposes only. It is not recommended for production use, but ideal for contributors, testers, and Linux enthusiasts who want to try B-OS early.
- Filename: B-OS-14-alpha-amd64.hybrid.iso
- Architecture: amd64 (64-bit)
- Status: Alpha — may contain bugs
- Purpose: Hardware compatibility, boot process, and early desktop environment testing
✨ The Road Ahead
B-OS 14 Alpha is just the beginning. With your feedback, we will move forward to Beta, Release Candidate (RC), and finally the Stable release. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to build a modern, Debian-based Linux distribution for everyone!
